Children's Book Illustration: The Enchanted Basket
This is a collection of illustrations came about as the result of a literary collaboration between myself and my father. Initially, our intention was to invent an amusing and encouraging story for our young relatives but it developed into a more well-rounded project.
The narrative follows a young girl named Sparrow. Her home life is tumultuous. Her parents are getting divorced and the adults in her life dismiss her as she grapples with her recently acquired adolescent angst. Sparrow copes by misbehaving.
During this time, Sparrow is gifted a magic basket by to her grandma. Each night, while her family sleeps, a different animal emerges, equipped with fables about coming of age and coming to terms with “grown-up” problems. With help from her animal friends, Sparrow is able to reconcile with her situation and she straightens out her behavior.
The objective of the book was to deliver somewhat-mature content in a way that somewhat-immature individuals would find compelling. The illustrations were included to bolster the message make the content more engaging for a young audience.
